There will be instructional training for sea kayaks, focusing on surf management skills, including safety, fun and skills needed for coastal play in the surf zone.
This year, there will be two streams.

Training commences mid-afternoon on Wed 22nd Apr and runs through till midday on Fri 24th. It will primarily take place at the northern end of Waihi Beach by the Surf Club, with Shelly Bay by Athenree as required.
Group size will be limited to twenty students for NZ Surf Sirens and sixteen students for Formal Novice Surf Management.
In order for paddlers to achieve the full benefit of the training on offer, there are pre-requisite entry standards for all paddlers: Students must be able to, or have:
Paddle kayak in a straight line forward and backward without a rudder.
Experience at Wet-Exit and Self, and Assisted Rescue.
Physical endurance for about 5 hours of training with breaks.
For training in the surf, we are requesting a koha payment to cover the travel and accommodation expenses of our coaches, who are generously donating their time.

For skilled paddlers who are a bit rusty, there will be volunteers on the beach to assist you with launching, landing, bracing, and managing your kayak in the soup.
